Ironically, just as April welcomes Stress Awareness Month, a new survey by Readly has found that the average UK worker takes just two breaks a day, totalling 24 minutes. And nearly 50% feel guilty for even doing that! Worse still, one in 10 don’t take any breaks because they’ve got too much on their plates. Meanwhile, a separate survey of Google search data since the start of the pandemic (by menswear retailer Charles Tyrwhitt) uncovered that the North East of England seems to be suffering the most, with ‘what is burn out?’ searches increasing by a whopping 191%. In Scotland, ‘stress acne’ was looked up the most (up 150%), while ‘how to avoid stress’ questions grew a mammoth 200% in the North West of England. Don’t worry, we’ve got just the advice you need. Here are ways to nail the work/life balance, plus some surprising relaxation routines.
Don’t you just love it when a celebrity reveals their beauty product must-haves? Us, too. We were mesmerised watching Gigi Hadid’s video on her post-pregnancy skincare and make-up routine, as she used so many fab and affordable products. So – spoiler alert – here are some of her faves. First up, when the weather is colder (hello, April chilly snaps!), her skin gets quite dry, so she reaches for Dr Jart + Ceramidin Cream. While that’s getting to work, she slathers Lanolips 101 Ointment on her lips and leaves it to sink in to create the perfect base for her lipstick, which she applies at the end. No new mum is without a great concealer for sorting out those under-eye shadows, so Ms Hadid uses Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer. She finishes her base with Maybelline Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Setting Powder, which she buffs in with a Fenty Beauty Brush. And, as for that pout, Gigi layers lipstick with the new plumping Maybelline Lifter Gloss, which we’ve tried and we love, too. Does that mean we’re basically BFFs with Gigi now?
We applaud new research by Replens, which found that nearly half of UK adults age 60+ are more confident in their sexual relationships than when they were younger; while 39% admit that sex is still an important part of their life. And (something-to-look-forward-to alert!) 45% say they are more at ease with sex and intimacy with the passing years. Best news we’ve heard in ages.
Overslept? Need a voluminous ’do sharpish? Fringe in desperate need of a second wind? Dry shampoo is the go-to to fix all of these woes. Beauty has many faces – and with 1 in 5 people in the UK self-identifying as having a visible difference on their face or body, such as a mark, scar, or condition, it’s vital that everyone feels welcome in the beauty world. Which is why we’re so excited that Sleek Makeup has partnered with the charity Changing Faces on their #PledgeToBeSeen campaign. They want to challenge the beauty industry’s perception or standard of ‘beautiful’ by working with and raising representation of women with visible differences. We are all unique in some way – and that’s the beauty of life!
