Dig out your fancy workout gear, gyms are reopening! While we can’t wait to swap baked bean tins in the living room for a real-life weights room, experts are warning gym bunnies to make the return gradual. Resistances and weights can be higher at gyms than most home set-ups, according to My Vital Metrics founder and fitness expert Owen Hutchins. ‘If you were exercising three times per week at home, for the first week just transfer one workout to the gym and complete the other two at home. In the second week, take two at the gym and one at home, and in the third week try all three at the gym.’ You’ve got this, fitness fans!

We love a speedy make-up routine here at H&B – and it seems we’re not alone. A fifth of Brits spend less than five minutes doing their make-up in a new poll. So if you’re a fan of a fast look, trim your face-time even more with these multi-taskers:

For a three-in-one hit, we’re into NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser SPF30 (50ml) – it gives great glow, with non-comedogenic (ie, non-pore blocking) coverage to help hydrate your skin while protecting it from sun damage, all in one tube!

Then there’s Smashbox LA Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Color, which features a blending sponge for the creamy formula, so you don’t have to spend time rummaging for the right tool to apply it.

Lastly, skip the eyelash curler with Huda Beauty Legit Lashes Mascara, featuring two wands – one for volume and another for curl.

Brush up on haircare

Do you know how to brush your hair properly? Pretty simple, you’d think – yet half of us are doing it wrong, according to a new survey by Tangle Teezer. Turns out that rather than brushing from the scalp down, we should be starting near the bottom and moving upwards in sections. Around 40% of us also know we’re committing hair crimes such as brushing too hard and ripping out knots, and 50% don’t even know if we’re using the right brush! Here are some great buys to help get you back on track…

Detangle wet hair with: Tangle Teezer the Wet Detangler Hairbrush Lilac and Mint; comb through any in-shower hair treatments with Lee Stafford The Big In-Shower Comb; and for thicker hair, give the Denman Large Styling Brush a go.

Let's hear it for the youth

How inspiring are today’s youth? From action on climate change to poverty issues, they are a force to be reckoned with. So what better time to celebrate them than International Youth Day on 12 August. And with 640,000 young people sadly set to face unemployment in the UK as a result of the pandemic*, it’s never been more important to support them, too.

That’s why Boots and The Prince’s Trust are working together to give the younger generation the break they need by providing opportunities that offer all-important skills and confidence. Over the past 12 months, 180 young people have been engaged in opportunities across Boots stores, their support office and warehouse, helping more than 73 youngsters into employment.

What’s more, to celebrate International Youth Day, Boots is launching their first virtual work experience programme to support young people from The Prince’s Trust, schools in Nottinghamshire and Business in the Community. Youth Power!
