4 of the biggest nail trends for AW20

We asked celebrity nail technician Michelle Class to create four looks inspired by the AW20 catwalks – and shot them through a mobile phone during lockdown!

Pearly queen

‘This is such a simple look, but it creates a really dramatic effect. At the AW20 Lela Rose show, they popped crystals along the cuticle, which was stunning. I was inspired to switch it up with tiny pearls, which I then took down my fingers and on to my hands. I know, it’s not that practical, but who cares: it looks amazing! You have to team this with a gorgeous nude polish shade to make your nails look really healthy.’

Matte attack

‘At Ashish this season, they created long, coffin-shaped nails in a matte black, which I loved. With this look, I kept the same shape but opted for khaki shade: it’s a bit more wearable and is so versatile with the rest of your wardrobe. I added a little gold leaf, which you can get at any craft store, because – why not?’

Little bit dotty

‘I saw the polka-dot mani at the Olivia Rubin show and used it as a springboard to create a more abstract design. I kept all the detail towards the tips of the nails and added an autumnal nail print to the mix.’

The new classic

‘A classic red nail will always be on trend, season after season. I love a high-shine shade, just like the red seen at Ashish, as it goes with everything in your wardrobe. For my look, I added a hint of negative space with some very simple black and white detail.’
