I grew up in The Wirral in Cheshire and went to an academic school that churned out lawyers and doctors.
I was the first pupil to take the more creative route when I went to the London College of Fashion (above) to study journalism and marketing.

When I graduated, I worked at Tatler magazine. My boss was American and we’d travel to the US to do fashion shoots. I noticed everyone in New York would get their nails done regularly, whatever their budget. Not like in the UK, where it would be a special-occasion treat.

That inspired me to launch a Nails Inc. store in 1999 – I wanted it to be the place people trusted to give them a nail-colour experience. A pop of colour on your nails makes you feel glamorous and groomed. Inclusivity has always been at the heart of my business. Our products have always been tested on people with different skin tones. They also all have to work as one or two coats. It’s important the colours are just as vibrant with one.

More women get gel manicures, but I think lockdown changed opinions of polishes. Now you can truly get DIY long-wear polish – and the options are more innovative than ever.

My Mood was born out of wanting to create something that had all the quality of Nails Inc. but with an appealing price point and colours that customers would get really excited about – because ultimately, that’s the best reason to buy a polish.

Even though coral nail polishes sell well, I prefer an orangey-red. It’s the cool-girl version of a coral. The My Mood Nail Polish Duo in Weirdos Welcome includes one of my favourites.
