How to be the ultimate gift giver this Christmas

Elizabeth Hewitt (or, as we like to call her, Mrs Claus) is responsible for making Christmas happen at Boots. Here are her tips on how to choose the perfect pressie
1. Make a list of people

you want to buy for and work out a budget for how much you want to spend on each person.

2. Try to think of something

that the receiver wouldn’t normally buy for themselves.

3. Use a shared memory

or experience that could trigger a gift idea.

4. If you’re struggling for ideas for someone

write a list of their favourite things, activities, food and brands to get your creative juices flowing!

5. To cut down on the number of presents you buy

as a family or friendship group, do a big family/friends Secret Santa, which means you can focus on one person.

6. Research ideas online while relaxing

then head out to the high street to enjoy the Christmassy feel!

7. Make shopping a fun day out:

bring a friend, partner or family member to help with the decision-making and bag-carrying, have a long lunch and plan something for the evening, to really get you in the Christmas spirit.

8. Buy a small emergency gift

(such as a box of chocolates) in case someone just drops by. (If you have no unexpected guests, it’s a treat for you!)

9. Putting on a Christmas film and sipping a cocktail

can make gift wrapping even more enjoyable. For an extra-special touch, add a gift tag with a personal message for the recipient, or tie the present with ribbon in their favourite colour.

10. If you aren’t going to see family or friends on Christmas day

schedule in a time you can exchange presents. Invite friends over for a mince pie before the craziness of the season really descends.
