How to change your skincare for summer

When the temperature rises, it’s time to tweak your skincare – here’s all you need to know

Lighten up

Skincare should follow what your wardrobe is doing with the seasons. ‘Just as you wear fewer clothes in the summer, warm temperatures bring more humidity in the air, which means you should switch to lighter-textured creams,’ explains skincare expert Ole Henriksen. ‘I love my C-Rush Brightening Gel Crème, which has a beautiful citrus aroma. The gel formula is lightweight on skin but still super hydrating – the perfect balance for summer.’

Let us spray

Facial spritzes are your skin’s best friend when the heat is on. Not only do they provide an instant hydration hit, but they can help cool you down. Our top tip? Keep your favourite mist in the fridge for those extra balmy days. We love Balance Me Hyaluronic Plumping Mist.

All-season serum

Even though the weather’s changed, there’s no need to ditch your serum. It’s considered the powerhouse of any skincare arsenal, and usually contains the highest percentage of active ingredients, making it seriously effective. ‘I recommend using one all year round,’ says Ole. ‘The formulation means the active ingredients can sink more easily into skin.’ Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Vitamin C Serum adds an instant glow to skin and helps protect it against environmental stressors such as pollution, making a difference you can see within seven days.

We may sound like a broken record, but wearing SPF on a daily basis is essential to help protect skin – even more so when the sun is shining brightly. Make sure you apply it meticulously over every inch of exposed skin; and remember to re-apply it frequently. Always look for a broad-spectrum SPF and/or a five-star rating, so you’re safeguarding from UVA and UVB rays. Again, in hot weather, you might prefer a lighter texture, such as a gel or a spray. We rate La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sun Protection Face Mist SPF50 for the face and Sun Bum SPF30 Sunscreen Spray for the body.
