Holiday relaxation tips every busy woman needs

1. Practise gratitude

Instead of scrolling through Instagram, why not spend a little time thinking about what you’re grateful for. Why? Well, practising gratitude can increase our satisfaction with life as well as improve self-esteem. Jot down three things you’re thankful for today – it can be as simple as the sun shining!

2. Inhale and exhale

Try pranayama. Say what? It’s a range of breathing exercises that yogis have been practising for hundreds of years. It includes alternate nostril breathing, which in one study was shown to increase oxygen consumption by up to 37%. To start, cover your right nostril with your thumb, inhale through the left; pause. Use your ring and little finger to cover your left nostril and exhale through the right; pause. Inhale through the right nostril, exhale through the left. Repeat for as long as you want.

3. Read and relax

Getting stuck into great fiction has been shown to improve our ability to empathise and better understand other people. 4. Positive visualisation

Holiday time = me-time, so use it to reflect on where you want to be in the future. Positive visualisation techniques can help improve our ability to stick to a goal, and have long been used by athletes to optimise their training. Need a shot of inspiration? Log on to Pinterest on your phone and have fun making a moodboard of goals.

5. Unwind with a massage

Massage is a great way to relax – and you can do this tummy massage yourself while staying horizontal! Place palms flat on your stomach, then move fingers in a clockwise motion around your belly button. Apply light pressure, increasing it as you enlarge the circles.
