We’re always looking for ways to eco up our lives, and that rings true at Christmas, too. Research reveals that this year half of us plan to have our most sustainable Christmas yet. Seven in 10 of us are buying things made from eco-friendly materials and nearly half are pledging to buy second-hand or refurbished Christmas gifts. From countless Christmas cards, excessive wrapping paper and silly amounts of packaging, Christmas can cause a lot of waste. Need some green gifting inspo? You can’t go far wrong with the BBC Earth Eco Bathroom Starter Kit. It includes a recyclable washbag, luxe soaps for hair and body and reusable cotton pads. And EXCLUSIVE Champneys Eco To Go Lunch Kit is an ideal stocking filler – it’ll jazz up any lunchtime with chic bamboo and is, of course, recyclable. Ho, ho, ho!
If you haven’t got round to watching the very binge-worthy Emily In Paris, then we suggest you do. It’s prime Netflix lockdown-viewing fodder – not only for the gorgeous backdrop of Paris and phenomenal cast wardrobes, but also for star of the show Lily Collins‘ array of fabulous lipsticks. And there is one particular scene and lippy choice that has got everyone talking. No plot spoilers here, but Lily’s character, Emily, heads to the Paris opera wearing the most phenomenal deep pinky-red shade that has now become a source of conversation on social media. Being an ambassador IRL for Lancôme, we knew Lily would be sporting a shade from the brand – and our sources tell us it’s the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Ruby Cream Satin Lipstick in Pigeon Blood. Go get it now.
Breaking news: the humble French mani has had an upgrade. Say hello to oat milk nails! For those who love an understated, flattering look, this one’s for you. It’s the nail equivalent of the classic no-make-up make-up and is pretty easy to pull off. We spied it at LA Nail pro Fariha Ali (@nailjob) and it’s all about accentuating your natural, naked nails — but focusing on creamy, oat-milk coloured tips. Seeing as we can’t step foot in any nail salon for the time being *sobs*, try it yourself with the help of My Mood Nail Polish in Different for extra-milky tips, and add shine with Essie Gel Couture Top Coat Nail Polish.
We’ve just found out some even more surprising ways we could be passing Covid on to loved ones*. Much to our shock, it’s sharing a toothbrush holder that poses an increased risk. Two in three people who tested positive for coronavirus, and who share a toothbrush container with family members, passed the virus to them. Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the Oral Health Foundation, advises: ‘Store your toothbrush away from others, in a dry place and with the brush head pointing upwards. This allows the bristles to dry faster and hinders the spread of any virus or bacteria that may be lingering on the brush. If you know you are infected, soaking your brush in an antibacterial mouthwash after brushing could also help kill any bacteria and viruses on the toothbrush.’
P.S. Shock horror! – even using the same toothpaste is an issue: households with a Covid-positive member increase their risk of spreading the virus by almost a third using that same tube. Moral of the story: keep your oral hygiene – and its tools – totally to yourself.
This has just made our hearts melt: on 1 December 2020 at 7.30pm, the international children’s cleft lip and palate charity, Smile Train, will be hosting a free, one-hour online Christmas carols concert on its website. Think gorgeous, get-you-in-the-Chrimbo-spirit tunes, plus a special performance by BBC Young Musician Of The Year finalist and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Toril Azzalini-Machecler. And, get this, it’s filmed at Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair (where Keira Knightley got married in movie Love Actually). Tune in and donate.
