Barbers are back open – fab news for overgrown styles and beards. But that’s not the only good thing about it. UK barbers are uniting to launch an incredible campaign, #OurDoorIsOpen, inspiring men to open up about mental health. Led by The Lions Barber Collective, it has trained more than 2,500 barbers around the UK and beyond to further support their customers through its clinically backed Barber Talk programme). Heartbreakingly, suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK, yet only 28% of those have had contact with mental health services. So barbers across the UK are open and ready to support those willing to discuss their mental health. Find out if there’s one near you.
If, like us, you’ve been shopping like it’s the first time you’ve ever seen a store, you’ll also have been putting anti-bac on your hands each time you step inside somewhere new. And no doubt have dry, cracked, older-looking hands as a result. (No surprise that a recent Eucerin survey found 70% of women aged 40 and older wish they could change the appearance of their hands.) Some solutions? Carry this alcohol-free anti-bac with you to use instead of harsh, drying shop ones: EcoHydra Antimicrobial Hand Sanitiser Foam*. (It’s used by the NHS so it must be good!) When you get home, wash your hands thoroughly with Simple Gentle Care Fresh Mint Anti Bacterial Handwash (perfect for sensitive skin). Then use nourishing Eucerin Hyaluron Filler+Elasticity Anti-Ageing Handcream With Hyaluronic Acid (75ml) – it’s like a ‘facelift’ for hands – and has SPF30. Winner!
Let’s get one thing straight: sun cream is an absolute essential, all year round. So if you’ve struggled to find the perfect one, we’ve picked our three faves. Don’t forget, SPF should always be at least factor 30 to protect against UVB (burning rays). If you’ve been turned off your previous SPFs due to stickiness, white residue or breakouts, these will have you jumping on the sunscreen bandwagon pronto. For dry, sensitive complexions Ambre Solaire Super UV Anti-Dryness Protection Cream SPF50+ has got SPF50 but a surprisingly light texture (and it’s a bargain). If you’re a make-up wearer and don’t want your SPF to interfere, look no further than Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream Plus SPF50+ – it sinks in sharpish, creating a dewy base. For spot-prone skin, we love trusty La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-Shine Tinted Sun Cream Gel SPF50+. You won’t look greasy by lunch, plus it has a touch of sheer tint to it – and who doesn’t like a multi-tasker? Now go forth, and be sun-safe!
Back pain is, quite literally, a massive pain. And it isn’t going anywhere, as research from OTTY found a 5100% increase in back pain-related Google searches in the UK since 2004! Ouch. Blame it on working from home (RIP posture), lifting something too heavy, or stress – it’s a sore issue. With over 34k searches for back pain each month, it’s no wonder we’re turning to Google for answers on how to ease it. If your posture needs attention, why not give the Neo G Light Clavicle/Posture Support a go. And don’t underestimate the benefits of staying active: the NHS recommends exercising (think walking, swimming and Pilates) and stretches to alleviate it. We’re all taking small steps to make our lives a bit greener and channel our inner David Attenborough. And the stats back it up: 85% of Gen Z and millennial consumers want to see more use of recycled and natural packaging. And not only that, 77% say they would change to a sustainable product if they found one that offered the results they want and need. So switch your usual shampoo for the Eco Warrior Deeply Nourishing Shampoo Bar With Orange And Ginger Essential Oils (100g), (we promise you won’t forgo shiny locks). Get rid of packaging guilt with the dual-ended EcoTools Jade Roller – it’s got a plantable, seeded sticker so you can grow the packaging into wildflowers. We really rate Colgate Smile For Good Whitening Toothpaste, too. Its genius tube is recyclable as well as the cardboard. Your conscience (and teeth) will be gleaming.
