What’s the difference between BB and CC creams?

Baffled by BB creams, confused by CC creams and unsure about tinted moisturisers? This is all you need

BB creams

The BB is short for ‘beauty – or blemish – balm’, and offers light-to-medium face coverage. Think lighter than foundation, but thicker than tinted moisturiser. BBs contain clever light diffusers to give skin a photo-ready finish, and offer a bevy of other benefits, from sun protection to hydration and shine control. They’re a versatile skin solution. This is for you if you want to create a complexion that needs no photo filter.

CC creams

CCs, aka ‘colour correcting’ creams, even out skin tone, thanks to ingredients that target discolouration, sallow skin and dullness. Lighter in texture than BBs, they usually offer more coverage, so are ideal for concealing dark spots, redness or hyperpigmentation. This is for you if you want to create a more uniform skin tone, along with getting a hit of other skincare benefits, such as anti-ageing and anti-blemish formulas.

Tinted moisturisers

These do what they say on the tube: combine a trusty moisturiser with a hint of colour. They hydrate the skin and help give you an instant glow. This is for you if you’re having a good skin day and don’t have time to faff with lots of products.
