Back-to-work blues

Back in work post-Christmas? Or perhaps you didn’t get any time off at all? In May last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) identified workplace burnout as a global occupational phenomenon. Worried it’s affecting you? Here are some quick wins to try. Remove your email tally from all devices, says Bruce Daisley, author of The Joy Of Work (Penguin), ‘as the number begs you to peek.’ Useful advice when research shows a link between reading emails and raised levels of cortisol. Plus, when you’re really up against it, think: what 1 to 3 accomplishments would make today a success? Then diarise the other stuff for later in the week, once the critical tasks are done.

Want a party look, sharpish? Let your nails do the talking! We loved the gold accents at Preen’s AW19 show. Leave nails bare, run a line of Essie Nail Colour Penny Talk (13.5ml) across cuticles, and you’re good to go.

Hair hangovers

Morning after the party the night before? If you’ve overslept, dry shampoo is your go-to, obvs. But remember to brush it out! Leave it in and hair will get dirtier, as dry shampoo latches onto grime – which disappears when brushed away.

The colour of the season

When it comes to a key colour of the season, there’s an easy winner: blue. And chances are, if you’ve done any home improvements lately, blue velvet furniture or dark-blue walls have crept onto your moodboard. Plus, colour-trend company Pantone introduced a new, limited-edition inky-navy hue – Evening Blue – at the start of the year, which has been so popular, it’s now been incorporated into its core collection. Looks like the blues are here to stay…
